YM Dr Tengku Norita Binti Tengku Yazid

Consultant Chemical Pathologist

Dr. Tengku Norita bt Tengku Yazid is an accomplished Chemical Pathologist with over three decades of experience in pathology and laboratory medicine. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Malaya in 1992, followed by a Master of Pathology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1999. Currently serving at Hospital Selayang, she plays a pivotal role in pathology services and medical education. She serves as a Consultant Chemical Pathologist and is a supervisor for Master of Pathology Part II trainees. Her leadership extends to the national level, where she serves as Head of the Pathology Specialty for the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Advisor for Kluster Klang Valley 1 (KKV1), and Ministry of Health representative on the National Quality Assurance Steering Committee. Dr. Tengku Norita also chairs the committee responsible for revising Malaysia’s National Guideline for Method Verification in Medical Laboratories. In addition, she contributes to national health policy through multiple high-level committees, including those under the Malaysian Medical Council and the Pathology Services Division. A strong advocate for quality, policy development, and education in laboratory medicine, Dr. Tengku Norita has authored numerous reports, guidelines, and journal publications. Her professional affiliations reflect her international engagement and commitment to the field. She is a life member of the College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine Malaysia, and the Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists. She is also an overseas member of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry (UK), the International Association for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology, and the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. Her work continues to shape the development of pathology services in Malaysia and to inspire future professionals in laboratory medicine.

Dr Ammar bin Hashim

Dr Ammar bin Hashim

Head of Risk Management Unit, Sarawak General Hospital

Dr Ammar Bin Hashim is a healthcare professional with a background in both clinical medicine and law. He obtained his medical degree from Manipal Higher Education in 2012, marking the beginning of his professional focus. Following this, he focused on the regulatory requirements affecting patient care, leading him to earn a Master's degree in Healthcare and Medical Law from Taylor's University in 2021. Since early 2025, Dr Ammar began serving as the Head of the Risk Management Unit at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), overseeing unit operations. In this capacity, he applies the knowledge and experience gained from managing numerous medicolegal cases throughout his tenure at SGH. Dr Ammar is an active speaker on medicolegal issues. He regularly shares information and procedural updates both in hospital forums and at external professional events. His dual qualifications and practical experience make him a resource for the hospital in addressing healthcare risk and legal compliance.

Dr Pan Ann Feng

Anatomic Pathologist, Hospital Queen Elizabeth

Dr Pan Ann Feng is a dedicated and enthusiastic anatomic pathologist with 14 years of experience in the medical field, currently serving at Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Sabah. She obtained her Master of Pathology from University of Malaya in 2019 and later completed her subspecialty training in Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology in United States in 2024. Dr Pan is widely recognized for her expertise. She has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences, at the same time also made significant contributions through her publications in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology.

Dr Selvam Thavaraj

Dr Selvam Thavaraj

Consultant Pathologist & Professor, University of Malaya

Dr Selvam Thavaraj is a consultant pathologist specializing in head and neck pathology. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Oro-Maxillofacial Surgical and Medical Sciences at the University of Malaya (UM). He obtained degree of Dental Surgery from the University of London and completed his Fellowships at the Royal College of Surgeons of England subsequently. He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists since 2009 and holds a PhD from the University of Bristol. Dr Thavaraj has extensive experience in head and neck pathology, having served as an Honorary Consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London for over 15 years. He has also been a senior lecturer in this specialty for more than two decades at King’s College London and the University of Bristol. He is an active member of the Cancer Research UK Expert Review Panel and has contributed to national and international guideline development. His work with organizations such as ICCR, RCPath and NICE has helped shape pathology standards. He has led and co-authored several chapters in the current WHO Classification of Head and Neck tumours and is the Head and Neck Associate Editor for the journal Histopathology. A sought-after speaker, Dr Thavaraj has published extensively in high-impact journals, with research focused on HPV-driven head and neck disease, predictive markers in oral cancer, and evolving histological criteria. His career reflects a deep commitment to advancing diagnostic excellence, research, and education in head and neck pathology

Dr Sugunah A/P Sallapan

Dr Sugunah A/P Sallapan

Anatomic Pathologist, Hospital Kuala Lumpur

Dr Sugunah Sallapan is an Anatomic Pathologist with over six years of experience in diagnostic histopathology, currently serving at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. She obtained her Doctor of Pathology (DrPath) from the National University of Malaysia in 2019 and later completed a Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2024. Her subspecialty interest in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology began during her master’s training, and she subsequently received local mentorship from Dr Salmi Abdullah and Dr Pavitratha Puspanathan. She later underwent fellowship training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Canada, working closely with a team of gastrointestinal and liver pathologists. Her current area of interest include upper gastrointestinal pathology and endoscopic resection specimens.

Dr Hanisah binti Abdul Hamid

Chemical Pathologist

Dr Hanisah Abdul Hamid graduated with a Medical Degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2001. She later completed her Master of Pathology (Chemical Pathology) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2009. Her main area of interest is Toxicology, for which she underwent specialized training at Mahidol University, Thailand, in 2022. She currently serves in several appointed roles, including as the Chairperson for the National POCT Committee and National Laboratory Quality Assurance Subcommittee (POCT); Committee Member of the Chapter of Chemical Pathology & Metabolic Medicine, College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia; Committee Member of the Asian Federation for Clinical Biochemistry (APFCB) Point of Care Testing Working Group; and Member of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry & Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) EMD on Point of Care Testing. She also serves as a Technical Auditor for the Department of Standards Malaysia for MS ISO 15189.

Dr Nada Syazana binti Zulkufli

Chemical Pathologist & Laboratory Director

Dr Nada Syazana is a Chemical Pathologist and Laboratory Director with experience in clinical diagnostics, quality management, and medical education. She is an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer and holds committee posts in several professional bodies, including the Chapter of Chemical Pathology & Metabolic Medicine, College of Pathologists, the Asia Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and the Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists. Dr Nada also publishes and regularly speaks at national and international conferences on clinical chemistry, laboratory quality, and pharmacogenomics.

Associate Professor Dr Pavai Sthaneswar

Associate Professor, University Malaya

Dr Pavai Sthaneshwar graduated from Kilpauk Medical College, India. She is currently holding the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, University Malaya. She is the academic person in-charge for Chemical Pathology in the Division of Laboratory Medicine. Her interests are improvement of the services provided by the clinical laboratories. Dr Roslina binti Omar

Dr Roslina binti Omar

Senior Chemical Pathologist, Hospital Ampang

Dr Roslina Omar is a Senior Chemical Pathologist and the Head of the Special Biochemistry Unit at the Department of Pathology, Hospital Ampang. With over two decades of clinical and laboratory experience, she has served in multiple institutions, including Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Umum Sarawak and Hospital Serdang before her current position in Hospital Ampang. Dr Roslina holds a Master of Pathology in Chemical Pathology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 2012 and has pursued advanced training in specialised protein testing through her Area of Interest (AOI) fellowship at the Protein Reference Unit, St George’s Hospital, London, United Kingdom in year 2022. Her expertise encompasses specialized testing for myeloma and related plasma cell disorders, amyloidosis, multiple sclerosis and cryoglobulinemia, where she serves as a key reference specialist providing consultation across Peninsular Malaysia. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr Roslina is the Deputy Head of the Pathology Department and plays an active role in training and supervising MPath trainees for Chemical Pathology, gazettement specialists, and Clinical Hematology subspecialty trainees. She also contributes to national-level committees, including the Human Resource Committee for Chemical Pathology Services since 2015 and the MMC’s JK Kecil General Pathology since 2024. Her passion for quality diagnostics, education, and service development continues to drive advancements in specialised protein testing in Malaysia.

Dr Siti Sharina bt Anas

Head of Department of Pathology, Hospital Putrajaya

Dr Siti Sharina Anas is an experienced Chemical Pathologist and the Head of the Department of Pathology at Hospital Putrajaya. With a medical degree and a Master’s in Chemical Pathology from Universiti Sains Malaysia, she has dedicated nearly three decades to advancing laboratory medicine and endocrine diagnostics in Malaysia. Dr Siti Sharina has led major pathology units in both Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital Putrajaya, contributing significantly to specialised services including biochemistry, endocrine testing, dynamic function tests, and quality management. Her subspecialty attachment at Royal Perth Hospital further strengthened her expertise, particularly in renin–aldosterone and catecholamine testing. A respected educator and speaker, she has presented at national and international conferences on endocrine protocols, vitamin D and point-of-care testing. Beyond her leadership roles, she contributes to numerous national committees, guideline development, and laboratory accreditation initiatives, embodying a commitment to excellence in pathology services throughout Malaysia.

Associate Professor Dr Thuhairah Hasrah bt Abdul Rahman

Associate Professor, UiTM

Associate Professor Dr Thuhairah Hasrah Abdul Rahman is a Chemical Pathologist at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), with extensive experience in clinical diagnostics, laboratory leadership, and cardiometabolic biomarker research. She graduated with an MBChB from Otago University, New Zealand, in 2000 and later obtained her Master of Pathology in Chemical Pathology from Universiti Malaya in 2009. Over her career, she has held several key academic and administrative roles, including Senior Lecturer, Deputy Dean, and currently Associate Professor of Medicine at UiTM. Dr Thuhairah is also a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Advancement Research Excellence Institute (CARE-i), where she contributes to research on advanced cardiometabolic risk biomarkers and diagnostic innovations. In addition, she serves as an Independent Laboratory Director and Consultant Chemical Pathologist for Innoquest Pathology through the UiTM and Innoquest Pathology partnership initiative and has been appointed as a Technical Assessor and member of the Laboratory Accreditation Evaluation Panel under Standards Malaysia. She has authored peer-reviewed publications indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science and is an active speaker at national and international scientific meetings, reflecting her ongoing commitment to advancing laboratory medicine and cardiovascular diagnostics.

Dr Fatin Akmal binti Baharom

Haematopathologist, Hospital Queen Elizabeth

Dr. Fatin Akmal Baharom is a Haematopathologist at the Department of Pathology, Hospital Queen Elizabeth. She obtained her MBBS from the University of Malaya and later earned a Master of Pathology in Haematology from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She has deep interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis and has completed her one-year subspecialty training, which included an overseas attachment at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium, under the supervision of Professor Katrien Devreese, one of a leading authority in the field. With her training concluded, she aims to enhance coagulation laboratory services at HQE, Sabah, supporting its development into a regional centre for Haemostasis and Thrombosis in line with national pathology service planning.

Dr Koh Su-Yee

Haematologist, Hospital Tunku Azizah

Dr Koh Su-Yee is a haematologist at the Department of Pathology, Hospital Tunku Azizah, Kuala Lumpur. She graduated with an MD from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2007 and later completed her Master of Pathology (Haematology) at the University of Malaya in 2017. She subsequently pursued area-of-interest training in bone marrow cytogenetics at Hospital Tunku Azizah and Singapore General Hospital, further strengthening her expertise in the cytogenetic evaluation of haematological disorders. Dr Koh has served in various laboratory and clinical roles since 2007, with experience spanning major public hospitals including Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar. Her professional and academic interests include diagnostic haematopathology and bone marrow cytogenetics. She has presented multiple research works at national and international scientific meetings, covering topics such as thalassaemia, acute leukaemia, and myelodysplastic syndromes. She is also a lifetime member of several professional bodies, including the Malaysian Society of Haematology, the Malaysian Laboratory Haematology Society, and the Medical Genetics Society of Malaysia.

Dr Norazlina binti Azman

Dr Norazlina binti Azman

Consultant Haematologist, Hospital Tunku Azizah

Dr Norazlina is a Consultant Haematologist at Hospital Tunku Azizah (HTA). She obtained her MBBCh from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2003 and later completed her Master of Pathology (Haematology) at the National University of Malaysia in 2012. In 2024, she pursued Area of Interest (AOI) training in Haemato-Oncology (Flow Cytometry) at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, New York, USA. She currently serves as the Chairperson for AOI Flow Cytometry Haemato-Oncology under the Pathology Specialty of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, where she is involved in the development and standardisation of national Flow Cytometry services. Her professional scope includes routine haematology practice, leukaemia and lymphoma immunophenotyping, as well as molecular haemato-oncology diagnostics. Dr. Norazlina participates actively in national committees, training initiatives, and scientific programmes. She is committed to advancing diagnostic quality and supporting the continuous development of haematology services in Malaysia.

Dr Siti Shahrum bt Muhamed Said

Consultant Haematologist, Hospital Tunku Azizah

Dr Siti Shahrum is a Consultant Haematologist and the current Head of the Pathology Diagnostic Unit at Hospital Tunku Azizah (HTA). She completed her MBChB at the University of Dundee, Scotland (1997), and her Master in Pathology (Haematology) at the National University of Malaysia (2009). Her specialized training includes Area of Interest (AOI) training in Molecular Haemato-Oncology at the University of Turin, Italy (2015-2016). She currently serves as the Chairperson for the AOI Molecular Haemato-oncology, Pathology Specialty, Ministry of Health, guiding the development of the National Molecular Haemato-oncology Service. Her expertise covers routine haematology, flowcytometry (Leukaemia/Lymphoma immunophenotyping), and molecular haemato-oncology diagnostics. Dr Siti is a member of several professional organisations and contributes to national projects, among others the National Guideline for Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (2nd Edition) and the National Strategic Plan for Cancer Control Programme (NSPCCP). She is actively involved as a committee member and speaker in various seminars and scientific meetings.

Dr Choong King Yen

Clinical Microbiologist, Hospital Melaka

Dr. Choong King Yen is a Malaysian pathologist specializing in medical microbiology, focusing on diagnostic immunology (inborn error of immunity, autoimmune disorders, allergy and hypersensitivity, transplant immunology). He obtained his MBBS and Master of Pathology from University of Malaya in 2010 and 2018 respectively. He developed and strengthened his interest in immunology through training in 2022 at Mahidol University in Thailand and the National Institutes of Health Malaysia. He has served and contributed his expertise at various hospitals under the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM). He is currently serving as a clinical microbiologist/immunology at Hospital Melaka. Dr. Choong has actively participated in numerous national conferences and workshops, presenting research on topics such as respiratory viruses, antimicrobial resistance, and fungal infection. His commitment to continuous education is evident through his involvement in various courses, including the National Pathology Conference and the Asian Conference on Biomedical Research and Lab Medicine. His excellence is reflected in the numerous awards he has received throughout his career. Additionally, he is a member of several professional associations, including the Malaysian Medical Association and the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, further establishing his credibility in the medical community.

Dr Kartina binti Md Noor

Dr Kartina binti Md Noor

Consultant Medical Microbiologist

Dr Kartina is a Consultant Medical Microbiologist from Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, Sungai Petani Kedah. She graduated from University of Wales, Cardiff with a Degree of Medicine and Surgery in 1999, and earn her Master in Pathology (Medical Microbiology) in 2009 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She began her career in microbiology field during postgraduate training at the Infectious Disease Centre, Hospital Sungai Buloh, Selangor. She then served as a Clinical Microbiologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah before she pursues for training for special interest in mycobacteriology at South Australia Supranational TB laboratory, Adelaide in 2014. Currently, she holds dual leadership roles as the Head of Pathology Services for the state of Kedah and the Head of the Microbiology Unit at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim. In addition to her diagnostic and clinical responsibilities, she actively contributes to national health initiatives, including serving on the development committee for the current Tuberculosis Clinical Practice Guidelines (TB CPG), participating in the Technical Working Group for TB, and conducting training programs for medical microbiologists specializing in tuberculosis.

Dr Murnihayati binti Hassan

Dr Murnihayati binti Hassan

Clinical Microbiologist, IMR

Dr Murnihayati Hassan is a double degree holder (MBBS and Bachelor of Biomedical Science) graduated from University of Melbourne, Australia in 2009, and is awarded Master in Pathology (Microbiology) from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2019. During her early career, she served as a medical officer in a district primary care and posted as clinical microbiologist in North-eastern Malaysia and Perak state hospital. She is now a clinical microbiologist in Bacteriology Unit, Institute for Medical Research (IMR) since 2022. Her research interest is in antifungal resistance, leptospirosis and medical mycology. Apart from that, she is also a lecturer and mycology module coordinator for Diploma in Medical Microbiology under SEAMEO Tropmed Regional School, supervisor of Leptospirosis Zoonotic Laboratory of Bacteriology Unit, a committee member of National Antimicrobial Resistance Committee, and actively involved in ISO Implementation Committee of IMR. She is an active contributor of technical reports on National Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance and Antifungal Susceptibility of Clinical Yeasts in Malaysia. She is an avid researcher and enjoy sharing her knowledge by organizing various training or educational programme for local and international delegates. To date, Dr Murni is currently conducting a multicentre study on integrated approach in severe leptospirosis, also known as GenLepto Project, funded by Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Dr Rozainanee binti Mohd Zain

Dr Rozainanee binti Mohd Zain

Consultant Clinical Virologist, IMR

Dr Rozainanee Mohd Zain is a Consultant Clinical Virologist and Head of the Virology Unit at the Infectious Disease Research Center, Institute for Medical Research (IMR), National Institutes of Health, Malaysia. She oversees specialized viral diagnostics supporting national healthcare facilities and leads Malaysia’s designated reference laboratories for diseases such as influenza, HIV/AIDS, poliovirus and hepatitis. Her unit also manages outbreak preparedness and the National External Quality Assurance Scheme (NEQAS) for HIV, Influenza and MERS-CoV. Dr Rozainanee’s research encompass a broad range of medically significant virus, including HIV, Hepatitis viruses, MERS-CoV, influenza, dengue, Zika, rubella and SARS-CoV-2. Notably, she contributed to genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 using residual RNA from antigen test kits and investigated Chikugunya virus evolution during Malaysia’s 2021 outbreak. Actively involved in national vaccine development initiatives, she serves as secretary of Malaysia’s Vaccine Collaboration Network and contributes to the National Vaccine Development Roadmap. As IMR’s biosafety officer, she ensures compliance with biotechnology regulations and provides biosafety and biosecurity training. Dr Rozainanee is also a committee member for the Biological Weapons Convention and a certified biosafety professional.

Dr Siti Rohani binti Abdul Hadi

Dr Siti Rohani binti Abdul Hadi

Consultant Clinical Microbiologist

Dr Siti Rohani binti Abdul Hadi is a medical doctor with 21 years of service in government hospitals and 13 years as a Clinical Microbiologist. She graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2005 with a double degree Bch Sc (Med Sc) and MD and earned her Doctor of Pathology (Medical Microbiology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2013. She completed specialized Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) training at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Switzerland in 2022, followed by subspecialty IPC training at the University of Geneva in 2024. Her professional interests include IPC, Healthcare-Associated Infections, and Antimicrobial Resistance. She has served in various tertiary centres under the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education and currently leads the Infection Control Unit and works as a Consultant Clinical Microbiologist at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah. Dr Siti has been actively publishing and presenting her work which includes numerous research projects at both national and international platforms. She is also involved in supervising MPath (Medical Microbiology) trainees. Dr Siti has contributed to multiple national and international Technical Working Groups. In 2024, she served as a Technical Officer and Malaysian Delegate at the 77th World Health Assembly and the 36th Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting. She also participated in the 2022 WHO Expert Meeting on the Global IPC Strategy.

Dr Siti Roszilawati binti Ramli

Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, IMR

Dr Siti Roszilawati Ramli is a Clinical Microbiologist and biomedical researcher at the Institute for Medical Research (IMR), National Institute of Health, Malaysia. She obtained her MBBS from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2002 and later completed her Master of Pathology (Medical Microbiology) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2011. In 2019, she earned her PhD in Biotechnology (Molecular Microbiology) from Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany. Her expertise focuses on molecular bacteriology, including diagnostic and surveillance work on Tuberculosis, Non-TB Mycobacteria, Leptospirosis, Rickettsioses, Melioidosis, and Bartonellosis, as well as antimicrobial resistance. Her research emphasizes the development of rapid and molecular diagnostic tools, genotyping of zoonotic pathogens, and next-generation sequencing–based assays for drug-resistant tuberculosis. Dr Siti Roszilawati is an active member of national technical working groups on Zoonotic Diseases, Leptospirosis, and Tuberculosis. She currently coordinates the Bacteriology Module for the SEAMEO-TropMed Diploma in Medical Microbiology at IMR. She also participates in diagnostic laboratory audits, subspecialty training in tropical infectious diseases and tuberculosis, and serves as a reviewer for several local and international journals. Additionally, she supervises Master of Pathology trainees specializing in tropical diseases such as Brucellosis, Rickettsiosis, and Bartonellosis.

Dr Siti Zarqah is a consultant anatomic pathologist at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu. She received her undergraduate training from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and subsequently obtained her Master of Pathology (Anatomic Pathology) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2016 before completing her fellowship training in Paediatric Pathology in 2024, in a program based in Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, UKM, and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore. Dr Siti Zarqah currently serves as the Head of Histopathology and Cytology Units of the Department of Pathology, Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu. She also holds the position as State Anatomic Pathologist for the state of Terengganu, since 2022. Dr Siti Zarqah has led significant advancements in the anatomic pathology and cytology services in Kuala Terengganu. She especially shows a passion in the field of Paediatric Pathology, receiving referral, consultations and invitations for speaking in conferences on various topics in Paediatric Pathology. She is particularly interested in the topic of newly-defined and emerging entities in Paediatric Pathology, spreading new information at national level. Dr Siti Zarqah also actively participates in several professional organizations including the Malaysian Division of Internaltional Academy of Pathology (IAP-MD), the Malaysia Medical Association and the Chapter of Paediatric and Perinatal Pathology of the College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine, Malaysia.

Consultant Anatomic Pathologist And Neuropathologist

Associate Professor Dr Nor Haizura is a well-known consultant anatomic pathologist and neuropathologist, currently serving the Pathology Department of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). She received her undergraduate training in Universitas Andalas, Indonesia, and subsequently obtained her Doctor of Pathology (Anatomic Pathology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2015. She completed her fellowship in Neuropathology in 2021, with subspecialty training in Neurooncology, Neuromolecular, Neuromuscular, Neuroanatomy, Paediatric Neurooncology, Neurodegenerative, Leukodystrophies, Neurodevelopment and Epilepsy, under the supervision of the renowned Prof J.M Kros in the Netherlands. Throughout her decade-long service as a pathologist, she has served several main hospitals in Malaysia including Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Kota Kinabalu, and Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Haizura is also a beloved teaching presence amongst pathology trainees, serving as one of the visiting lecturers in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) since 2022. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Haizura has been actively involved in the development of Neuropathology service in Malaysia. She has published and participated in many researches and case reports evolved around the field of Neuropathology. One of her interests include the current molecular classification of CNS tumours, of which her fellowship research “Correlation Between Histo-morphology and Molecular Findings in CNS Tumours” is based on. She has stood as speaker in many pathology conferences, at both national and international levels. She is also actively receiving referrals for consultation from Hospital Queen Elizabeth and Hospital Umum Sarawak, and actively participating as a regular panel in the ASCO-SGH Neuro-Oncology meetings, European EPiCare meetings and NCNP Neuromuscular Clinical Pathological Conferences. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Haizura is also a member in several national and international professional organizations including the International Academy of Pathology, Malaysian Division (IAPMD), Malaysian Society of Cytology (MSOC), International Academy of Cytology (IAC) (MIAC), European Confederation of Neuropathological Societies (EuroCNS), The International League Against Epilepsy (Academy of ILAE), College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (AMM).

Dr Munirah binti Abdul Razak

Consultant Pathologist (Haematology)

Dr Munirah Abdul Razak is a Consultant Pathologist (Haematology) at the Haematology Laboratory, Department of Pathology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur. She graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2002 and obtained her Master of Pathology (Haematology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2010. Her professional interests focus on molecular thalassaemia, with particular emphasis on genotype–phenotype correlations and molecular diagnostics. In 2022, she undertook advanced training in the molecular diagnosis of rare haematologic blood disorders at Villa Sofea Cervello Hospital, Palermo, Italy. Dr Munirah plays an active role in national thalassaemia initiatives including screening programmes, teaching modules and prenatal diagnostic services. She is extensively involved in research and academic activities, with multiple poster presentations at national haematology and pathology meetings, peer-reviewed journal publications and participation in research projects and clinical audits. Passionate about research development, she has served as the Research Committee Lead for the Pathology Service since 2018 and continues to contribute to national thalassaemia research efforts. In addition to her clinical and academic responsibilities, she is actively engaged in laboratory system development and management and is currently leading the development of Malaysia’s national thalassaemia laboratory database.

Dr Noraesah binti Mahmud

Dr Noraesah binti Mahmud

Haematology Pathologist

Dr Noraesah Mahmud is a Haematology Pathologist with over 15 years of experience, currently serving as the Head of Unit in the Pathology Department at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). She has a special interest in non-haematology disorders, particularly thalassaemia and G6PD deficiency. Additionally, she leads the Paediatric Hematology and Red Cell Disorder area of interest for the MOH Pathology Services. She is responsible for haematology diagnostic activity, upgrading the laboratory’s service and quality management in HKL and KKM. Dr. Noraesah obtained her medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Malaya and completed her master’s degree in pathology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2009. She further underwent area of interest training in Paediatric Hematology at the Human Genetic Laboratory, Gaslini Research Institute and Children's Hospital in Genoa, Italy, in 2020. Actively involved in the National Thalassaemia Prevention Programme & G6PD Activity, Dr. Noraesah also contributes to the training of postgraduate, degree, and diploma candidates in pathology. Her research focuses on thalassaemia and G6PD deficiency, and she participates in the evaluation of new diagnostic kits and publications within these areas.
